Description
Kendujhargarh is a rustic town and headquarters of the Keonjhar district of Orissa. Named after the ebony tree or kendu and perennial spring jhar, the former princely state of Keonjhar was under the mantle of the Khijjinga territory and came to prominence when the Bhanj ruler, King Jyoti Bhanj moved his capital here in early 12th century. Another milestone was achieved when southern areas were occupied by the ruler Goving Bhanja in the late 15th century.The ancient tribal culture and isolation of the region helped preserve the flora and fauna that was unique to the region.
